Ever since Dan discovered the Shou-sugi-ban technique used by the Japanese to age wood, he just can’t get enough of it. From the wooden beam light above the bar, to the recently built barn door, it’s become one of his staples for his carpentry projects. And this time around was no different. Dan was building us two picnic benches, and would be using the same technique. I know. Sometimes even I can’t get over how crafty he is. And he always makes it look so easy.
The seat of the benches were single 2x10s that were also burned to a crisp.
The legs of the bench would simply be made out of 2x4s, with a suspension bar of sorts (i.e. black pipe) connecting the two sets of legs together for added support.
Once the seat and legs were complete, Dan drilled them together, and waalah – a bench was born (times 2).
Love the legs! And the ones on the benches, too! 🙂
